To share or not to share – That is the question!

For everyone who is using social media during these trying times, I am sure we must have faced this internal dilemma – should we post happy things anymore or not? I remember quite recently, on International Mother’s Day, there were quite a few posts beckoning people to not post stories celebrating their mothers in honor of all the people who lost their parent in this crisis.

A lot of my fellow content creators must have also been hit by the wave of guilt for continuing to post their material, mostly which are aimed to entertain people in one way or the other. Now, I see three types of social media posts these days (with their own permutations and combinations of course!)

1. Pandemic information providers: Those who are actively working towards sharing verified information on key medical resources

2. Political stance defenders: Those who actively share posts that defend their political stance in this situation

3. ‘As is’ content posters: People like me who are continuing to post content the way they always have.

It is for this category three that the internal dilemma is quite strong. While category 1 is actively helping out in this pandemic, category 2 finds satisfaction in at least voicing their opinion. For category 3, the whole issue comes with trying to find that fine line where you are not seen to be condescending and impervious to everything that is happening around.

My thoughts today go out to these people. And this what I have to say – your social media account is yours! As long as you are not deliberately hurting people with your posts, there is no harm in sharing your joy with the rest of the world. And for those people, who are getting offended by this, all I can say is – one must never be saddened by happiness around them, because as long as there is happiness around us, in whatever shape or form, there is hope.

Having lost a few relatives and loved ones along the way in these past few weeks, I can say with utmost surety that it is the happiness that people share through their social media that keeps me sane these days. Just the knowledge that not everyone who is suffering has lost hope really gives me sheer joy and the will to continue thriving in my own life.

So here’s to all who find themselves stuck in the internal debate of ‘to share or not to share’, this is all I want to say – if it brings you joy, chances are that at least one soul will find their happiness in yours. So share away your joy and laughter, as you would your sorrow and pain. Because every good thought that gets out in the universe is sure to manifest itself into something bigger, brighter and better.

Stay safe and happy! All my prayers to you, your family and all your loved ones, in this realm and the one beyond...
