Love Lost and Self Regained
I have always enjoyed poetry that tells a story along the way. I have read poetry books that weave a beautiful pattern of emotions, one idea tied to the other so meticulously that they have to be read in a certain order to make the most sense.
Along these lines, I wrote a few poems in the past few weeks that feebly attempt to weave a story of love lost and the self regained.
Enjoy! And let me know what you think...
Love That Left the Candy Store
Today I feel lonely
There are no distractions in my life
I tried to fill up the empty space you left
With temporary things and temporary people
But when they left too
I couldn't help but think about you
How the idea of your presence was enough
To keep my worries at bay
How one word of love was enough
To keep me going throughout the day
I hate this distance
That fate has brought between us
The only permanent thing in our life right now
I wish I could turn back time
Do things that would make you stay
Because that's all I have ever wanted
Never the whole candy store of life
Just the one candy that would give me you
Wishful Thinking and Friendships of Old
You are slowly beginning
To fade away from my memory
I can't seem to remember now
The color of your eyes
Or the touch of your skin
How I felt within your arms
Or surrounded by your bliss
I never thought I could reach a point
Where your memories would also become
As distant as you are!
Was it really love?
If I cannot even
Make your memory
Stay with me,
In my head
Just like how
You chose to
Walk away instead
But now I have
A new hope that
When memories of us
Would have been wiped clean
Beyond recognition
From our existence
I hope then we can start over again
As strangers who once knew each other
Like the back of their hands
Trying to make new memories
Knowing we will never get
To relive those days of old
Where a look would mean a thousand words
A sigh would mean a hug (come close!)
Where days would pass by echoing
Of love and eternal bliss
But only that
Then I will know
You will never be
My last kiss
But at least I will get you back
As that one friend
Who really knew
The depths of my soul
Broken Pieces of Your Patched Up Heart
On days when you feel like
Your world is crashing down
You pick up the broken pieces
Of your patched up heart
And pray
That someone someday stays
Without you having to beg them to
