Blooming in unfavourable environments
Ever wondered how a beautiful Lotus flower blooms and prospers in the most unsightly of environments- the marshy wetlands? Well, it is to signify that sometimes beauty and greatness can truly shine only in the most unforeseen of circumstances. This is exactly what makes the Lotus not just any other ordinary flower, but a unique one.
So what makes one bloom in the most unfavorable of life circumstances?
1. One’s Life Support: They say that even if you are dying inside and you have someone to share your pain with, you die a happy man. When life throws us in the pit of misery, the one aspect that acts as the pulley that drags us out is our life support system- in the form of our family, our friends and the people we love and look up to.
2. One’s Hope for a Better Future: The one thing that truly kills the will to live in any man is the death of hope in him. Anything we do in a day is with the hope to see a better future. Eerily enough, we sleep peacefully each night with the hope to wake up tomorrow. So what is that one thing that can carry us through all storms of life- it is the undying hope that ‘this too shall pass’.
3. One’s Belief in Oneself: If there is anything that can break a man is the lack of belief in oneself. Famous psychological researcher Martin Seligman talks about the concept of learned helplessness which states that when a man believes that nothing he does can improve the situation he is in, the person goes into a state of learned helplessness which is studied to be the number 1 cause of clinical depression.
4. Presence of Role Models: Remember the times when our teeth would rattle just by the thought of writing our board exams. What kept me motivated during those psychologically stifling times are the conversations I had with my seniors who had already aced the exams. So when life puts you in sticky situations, try to find comfort in the words of those who have been through the same paths as you before.
5. Gratitude: If there is anything that life has taught me having been in the craziest of life situations in my teenage years is to always, ALWAYS! Be grateful for everything we have. We may be praying for brand new shoes in a world where kids our age are born without legs. Its only when we learn how to appreciate what we have is when we learn how to utilize our resources to their maximum potential.
So, we may be thinking that the grass is greener on the other side but it could be that we forgot to water our own side.
I love how this blog is shaping up. This is amazing, dear hooman.
