The Next Big Idea

Anyone who has been following this blog consistently knows that I haven’t been quite consistent with putting up new content. I can give you a thousand reasons why, but rather today I want to share a thought. You see, lately, I started jotting down headlines for potential blog posts whenever the next big idea would strike me. I started doing this in the hope that whenever I find the time to sit down and write, I can pick a topic from the long list that past Shar made and voila, a brand-new blog post!

But then came the problem. When I finally got the time to sit down and get a post done, I couldn’t remember in what context I had written those titles down. Now I have a list of potentially great ideas with no context for me to give any shape or form. Our life sometimes I think is just like this. Every time we get the next big idea, we stall it for a later point in time, stating lack of time and responsibilities as the reason why we can’t pursue them in the present.

I would like to believe that these aha moments are the very ideas that when fulfilled would give us the most joy. Passions that would truly make our hearts sing. Every time we finish the sentence, ‘I wish….’, in our minds, it’s the next big idea that often vanishes in the pace of our lives.

We forget to flesh it out. Sometimes it might be the most stable lingering thought in the back of our head and yet we are afraid to even try to make it see the light because we are worried about the consequences. What if I fail? What if it never works out? Doubts and worries cloud our inquisitive spirits.

I cannot give you a solution to the see-saw between our dreams and reality. But I can surely say, paths never tread will forever be fantasies in our minds. Sure, I understand sometimes our mind castles are cozier than the actual reality of our dreams. But then, will we ever know until we try?

Taking my example, imagine how many blog posts I would have dished out only if I had managed to give some time to that big idea that I had at the end of each day. It would have meant hours of joy I get from writing and consistency for my page.

All of us are creative spirits. Some write, some read, some paint, some sing, some dance, some cook, some travel, the possibilities are endless. In this era of hyper-productivity and career-based excellence, are we able to snatch the smallest moments of joy, by doing the things we love? Activities that rejuvenate our souls...

It might be five minutes of your every day or an hour on your weekend, take that time out for yourself. Take those baby steps to make that next big idea that you have a reality. Who knows? It just might be what the world needs from you, what your life purpose on this planet is.

To all the dreamers out there, may you continue to find the strength to build the castles in your mind on the islands of reality.
